Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Wednesday that most Americans have grown too detached from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and see military service as "something for other people to do."
If too few "bear the burden" then there is only one solution. The burden is too light, so, start new wars to oblige them to lend a helping bullit , or to pay for a substitute to go in their stead, an old American tradition.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Pentagon can furnish as many wars as are necessary to "get the job done."
Want to bet that these are plans that are not "off the table?"
Okay, so let me get this straight. Gates goes around the world with his army starting aggressive wars of choice, again and again refusing peace as an alternative. He is responsible for the killing and the inflicting of suffering upon hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people who never did anything at all to him or the US. Now he has the unmitigated gall to complain that we aren't enthusiastic enough about it, due to some lack of so-called "patriotism."
I don't know whether to snort in disgust or just laugh right out loud. Talk about a disconnect from reality! I guess the thought of dialing back just a bit on the worldwide mayhem doesn't even register as a possibility. He's so corrupted he can't even see the complete moral bankruptcy of what he's saying. Damn straight I'm not gonna help "bear the burden" of his bloodlust. Neither are my kids.
I would send my kids to defend the GOM against BP and others before I ever let them sign up and serve in the UN military… scuse me, US military. The issue isn't about signing up but, more about signing off from this leadership belief in WAR. It's time to punch a whole through the pigskin, break the drum sticks, put the machine gun down for a hammer, fishing rod, etc., and get to living. How do we get even less people to show up is the real question. Phuckyootoo Gates!
We need conscription to assemble an army and remove the illegal, immoral ruling elite in WashingtonDC and shut down teh Federal Reserve and the partial reserve currency system.
I have a better idea Bob. Let's stop the illegal wars you and your buds are profitting from and keep enough troops active to protect our own borders…ya know like the one to the South. And if you think these wars are such a great cause, why don't you go on a few combat missions and show us your resolve.
One thing that's bothered me for years now about Americans not bearing the burdon of these wars is the treasonous tax cuts Bush gave to the rich to not ever pay for along with this off-budget wars. Who's side are these traitors on anyway? Now the rich are bitching about their taxes going up with filthy rich people on commercials complaining that "their just barely hanging on". Pay your damn war time taxes rich people and shut the f up. I'm hopeing that Congress will just do what it does best and have a nice gridlock of arguing and non-decision between now and December and this tax cut albotross around America's neck will then just go away and gridlock again saves the Ameircan economy. Are we fighting wars or are we committing suicide as a nation. Your choice.
Maybe the reason many Americans don't see military service as a duty is because…. it isn't? I'm not of the "my country, right or wrong" school of thought- if the US is being The Bad Guy, I'm going to say so. I refuse, however, to go along with unjust wars of choice against nations we have no business fighting with over interests that are counter to our national security. Maybe many Americans feel that those billions of dollars being spent essentially for nothing could be better spent right here in America. Maybe many Americans would like to travel the world and enjoy other other cultures, but cannot since our government has shamed us in the eyes of a great many nations. Maybe we're just plain tired of being a cash cow for the National Security State. Maybe we're tired of being lied to about the terrorist threat. Maybe we're just plain tired of being lied to by our elected officials, period.
JM… You woke up and saw the writing on the wall for what it is… A litany of lies. Staying home and minding ones business is actually cheap. It's when the empire gets restive, and since when has it not, that the price tag goes up.
