Iran released an American woman on a bail of $500,000 Tuesday more than a year after she was detained, but authorities said they were not considering the immediate release of two companions arrested with her.

Now, it cannot be said that the Iranians do not have a sense of humor. It is very clever of them to force the family of the woman to have to risk "violating" the sanctions that the FedGov has so sanctimoniously imposed on Tehran. The FedGov, of course, doesn't give a hoot how preposterous it looks in forcing the Shourd family to imperil itself to get their daughter back, because, after all, it's not like the FedGov represents the interests of its citizenry. For that matter, this really should be a lesson to idealistic young Americans who might get the silly notion in their heads that they might make an exotic trip close to one of the FedGov's enemies for the purpose of doing their "patriotic duty." They will be hung out to dry with the bitter reward of "plausible deniability" ringing in their ears as they fester in a foreign prison.
