The U.S. stepped in it when it allowed Geo. W Bush to lead us into a never-ending conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq. A "global war on terror" instead of a limited military action against bin Laden and his al Qaeda followers. Al Qaeda was probably never in Iraq, they are all but gone from Afghanistan, so now we fight the Taliban on their own turf to what is essentially a standoff, at a cost of at least 1500 lives and a couple of trillion dollars that we don't have. Only the military - industrial complex benefits. American society suffers.
