A Qatari diplomat was on his way to an official visit with an imprisoned al-Qaida sleeper agent when he touched off a bomb scare by slipping into an airline bathroom for a smoke, officials said Thursday as the diplomat prepared to leave the U.S.

"'I think it's wrong. I'd get busted. I don't think that (immunity) should be a factor,' said one of them, Hank DePetro, a retired psychologist from Greeley, Colo.
This is a prime example of why Americans are collectively an incredibly asinine group of people. Confronted with the clear legal situation of the diplomat, the Boobus Americanus can only blubber and sputter in rage. I am quite sure, however, that if an American diplomat had gotten himself arrested in another country, Mr. DePetro would be in the forefront of those demanding that the other country not forget for one second that the diplomat enjoys diplomatic immunity.

The news story says: "…That scare exposed major holes in the country's national security and prompted immediate changes in terror-screening policies." What major holes did it expose? The guy did not have a visa to US, according to an eyewitness report he was helped by an official (presumably US) to get on the plane. We don't know who provided him the explosive which was just potent enough to make some smoke and a little fire. All this just to help US in opening yet another front (this time Yemen) for the so-called global war on terror. Add to that a self-confessed (via water-boarding I guess) 'sleeper agent' researching poisnous gasses and planning cyber attacks. A paronia has been created in which smoking a cigarette (a minor offence) prompts F16s to get in position to shoot down the plane. How sad!
